Main Post Office

A historic building of Main Post Office from the time of Austrian-Hungarian Empire

Main Post Office building at the time of its inception was one of the most modern postal buildings in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. 

The front of the main post office is decorated with four allegorical statues which represent the four major pillars of the former communication: telegraph, railway transport, ship transport and mail.

Elizabeth Baths

Elizabeth Baths

The vast Pseudo-Baroque complex of Alžbětiny lázně (Elizabeth Baths) was built between 1905 and 1906 according to the design of architect Franz Drobny in Smetanovy sady (Smetana Park) in the northern part of the centre of Karlovy Vary. As a result of an extensive reconstruction effected in the early 21st century, the Elizabeth Baths have become the largest balneological facility in Karlovy Vary, which provides more than 60 spa procedures exploiting thermal water and peat. The complex also includes a public indoor swimming pool.

Hotel Thermal

Hotel Thermal

The modern hotel complex and spa sanatorium known as the Thermal Hotel was built between 1967 and 1976 according to the design of the Czech husband-and-wife team of architects Věra and Vladimír Machonin. The dominant, high-rise hotel building may boast a convention centre with vast premises suitable for festivals, congresses, symposiums, concerts and many other cultural events. Inseparable from the hotel is its unique open-air heated swimming pool supplied with thermal water from the Hot Spring. Every year, the Thermal Hotel is the central venue of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

City Market

City Market

Built between 1912 and 1913, the modern market hall standing in the business district on the northern edge of the centre of Karlovy is the work of the then Director of the Municipal Building Office and city architect, Franz Drobny. In the early 1990s, the building has been converted into a modern self-service retail store. Today, a supermarket may be found in the building.
