The Czech Republic is celebrating its 100th foundation anniversary of Czechoslovakia in 2018. Karlovy Vary will remember the anniversary with some planned events. Become part of these celebrations in one of the most beautiful spa town in the world. Both sporting and cultural and social events have been prepared.
Opening of the Spa Season
The annual Opening of the Spa Season (OSS) is an important event. 661 – this is the number of the season which will be opened in Karlovy Vary at the first weekend in May, i.e. from the 4th till the 6th May 2018. You can look forward to an extensive cultural and social programme. Charles IV, the founder of the town himself, is coming with his suite in “Charles IV procession“, which is a traditional part of the Opening of the Spa Season in Karlovy Vary. Like in previous years, mineral springs will be consecrated so that they can keep restoring the visitors to Karlovy Vary to health.
Parts of the OSS are also the traditional handicraft market, the Porcelain Festival and the Foodfestival.
Mattoni 1/2 Marathon Karlovy Vary 2018
Do you like running? Or do you like watching other people running? You can try to run a 1/2 Marathon from the CzechRun family in Karlovy Vary too. To run through the beautiful spa zone with a fantastic spectator background and support. You can experience it only with the 1/2 Marathon Karlovy Vary. We are starting on the 19th May 2018.
FISAF International European Fitness & HIP HOP UNITE Championships 2018
We will welcome competitors from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic in the centre of magical Karlovy Vary from the 24th May until the 27th May 2018. They will compete in aerobic gymnastics and fitness from Tuesday up to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday sports competitors will change into dance competitors taking part in the European Championship. They will compete in Hip Hop categories (Small Crews, Big Crews, Battles and a new Duo category).
Karlovy Vary Carnival
The 11th Mattoni Karlovy Vary carnival willl take place on the 2nd June 2018. Do you have a mask? Or an interesting costume? Prepare it then and set off in a procession in the rhythm of dance music. If you prefer being a spectator, it is not a problem. There will be a lot of things to watch.
The International Film Festival Karlovy Vary
The International Film Festival Karlovy Vary is the most important event in the town. In 2018, to be more precise from the 29th June until the 7th July 2018, the film festival will be held for the 52nd time.
If you want to see the biggest and most famous spa in the Czech Republic in a totally different light than in the rest of the year, you should choose just the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary. You can look forward to an extensive supporting programme, concerts, parties and a lot of performances.
Carlsbad Classic
The unique atmosphere of Karlovy Vary and the spa triangle is perfectly complemented with the elegance and majesty of classical cars. Carlsbad Classic is part of the CLASSIC RALLYE TROPHY championship in the season 2018. It will be held on the 13th and 14th July 2018.
Concerts and Operetta in the Colonnade
Concerts traditionally liven up hot August days in the summer. The concerts of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra in the colonnades are aimed at all those present. Admission is free. Each concert in the colonnade evokes a pleasant spa atmosphere. The Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra has already been active for 183 seasons. It is the oldest orchestra on the territory of Bohemia and one of the oldest in the world.
The Summer Festival of Singing in the Mill Colonnade will present the genres of opera and operetta from the 13th up to the 22nd July 2018.
KING OF CITY Downhill 2018
The first year of a new extreme cycling competition in Karlovy Vary which continues, but especially extends, the already 5th year of the KV DOWNTOWN competition.
The track of the Karlovy Vary competition, the longest, steepest and, first of all, leading mainly down the hills, will welcome 3 extreme races during two days in 2018. The event will be held on the 4th and the 5th August 2018.
City Triathlon 2018
Swimming + Bike + Running = Triathlon
It all started exactly twenty-four years ago in 1994 when Karlovy Vary was playing host to the first race of the Czech Cup. The prestige of the event has grown year after year. You can go and support the sportsmen on Rolava sports grounds or in the town centre from the 31st August till the 2nd September 2018. These are places where competitions will be held. And this time with world stars – the City Triathlon Karlovy Vary is part of the Triathlon World Cup for the second time this year.
You can go for a run through Karlovy Vary at night on the eve of the main competition. The City Night Run Karlovy Vary held on the 31st August is an open competition for the broad public and families with children, a night run through the historical part of the town.
VARY° SHINING 2018
The Festival of Light has been preparing its 3rd year for the 7th and 8th September 2018. The audiovisual show will mesmerize you with the unique night atmosphere of the spa centre. People have experienced different feelings of unhappiness, joy, lack of freedom of anxiety. This year´s festival should leave the visitors with the feelings similar to those people experienced in the past.

Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival
The aim of the Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival is to protect and revive old customs, dances and folk music from the Karlovy Vary region and to reinforce the relationship between the inhabitants and the territory on which they live and which underwent complicated historical development. Regularly in September, since as early as 1996. The festival is supposed to be held from the 4th till the 9th September 2018.
Dvořák Autumn
Antonín Dvořák, probably the most famous Czech composer. One of the oldest music festivals in Europe, which is held during the beautiful Karlovy Vary autumn, bears his name. (From the 14th till the 30th September 2018).
International Jazz Festival XXXV
The festival, which has been held without any interruption since 1984, will take place in Karlovy Vary from the 5th till the 27th October 2018. This year is the eighteenth when the Jazzfest will be organized by the association Jazz Circle headed by the director and at the same time an active participant in the festival, the saxophonist Milan Krajíc.
The International Film Festival of Films about Tourism TOURFILM 2018
The oldest film festival of films about tourism in the world. Three October days in Karlovy Vary which are full of films about travelling. It will celebrate its 51th anniversary in the year 2018 (on the 5th and 6th October 2018).
The aim of the festival is to present and appreciate the films and multimedia whose contents and artistic standard contribute to the development of tourism both in our country and abroad and which help to push these films through internationally.
Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition
A competition, which was originally aimed at students of music school, has become a renowned international event in the course of years. The number of singers taking part in it ranges from 80 to 110. They come from the whole world and compete in categories OPERA, JUNIOR and SONG.
Like the famous film festival, this competition will also celebrate its 53rd anniversary in 2018. It will be held from the 9th till 16th November 2018.
