Route 2:An easier alternative is to take the Diana funicular from Grandhotel Pupp to the Jelení skok (Deer Jump) intermediate station and follow the comfortable path that leads along the Myslivna (Gamekeeper's Lodge) Sanatorium to Peter's Height.
History of the monument
Therese's Obelisk was erected in memory of the visit of Duchess Marie Therese Charlotte d’Angouléme to the spa in 1833. Duchess d’Angouléme was the daughter of French King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette, who were executed during the French Revolution, and the granddaughter of Empress Maria Theresa. The unveiling ceremony took place in the presence of the duchess on 21 June 1834.
An ode in German is inscribed on a plaque installed at the base of the pyramid-shaped sandstone obelisk. While roaming through the spa woods at Peter's Height, you may also see the bust of Peter the Great or admire a magnificent view of the city in the valley from a lookout platform. The Jelení skok (Deer Jump) Restaurant may also be found nearby.
