On August 10th, Karlovy Vary will host one of the biggest cycling events of the year - the Škoda Auto Czech Republic Marathon Championship! The ČEZ Karlovy Vary race will attract the best cyclists from all over the country, competing for the Czech Republic champion title.
Participants can choose from three varied routes of 20, 45, and 75 kilometers. The most famous Czech spa town promises excellent biking conditions right from the start, which will take place in the very center of Karlovy Vary.
The start is one of the highlights of the race. Hundreds of cyclists will set off from the historic center of our largest spa town, from Theater Square. Nearby are the world-famous Vřídlo, the colonnade, and the Grandhotel Pupp. Participants and their companions will spend the wait for the starting shot in a setting that architects aptly call a "gathering of whipped cream cakes."
The race course is truly unique. Both longer routes will wind through a network of winding walking paths on all the adjacent hills of the town, such as Friendship Heights with the famous Diana lookout, South Hill with the Charles IV viewpoint, Doubská Mountain, and Vítkův Hill. They will also pass through the new Linhart game reserve. Participants on the 45 km (Route B) and 75 km (Route A) routes will face several technical descents - the first shortly after the start from Diana, followed by Čapek's Path, and on the return to the town, a descent from Černá Marie above the Richmond Hotel, nicknamed "Truffle" by locals. A and B riders will refresh themselves 17 kilometers before the finish in the ford of the Teplá River, which also flows through the colonnade and along the Thermal Hotel, host to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
The longest Route A will take riders beyond Karlovy Vary, passing through the villages of Kolová and Pila between Karlovy Vary airport and Stanovice dam. Typical spa paths will be replaced by forest roads and trails, country roads with the flowers of midsummer, and views of the nearby military area Doupov or the ruins of Andělská Hora Castle. On the way back from the furthest points of the route and around the airport, they will pass through an extraordinarily photogenic heather field in bloom at this time. The finish is planned at the KV Arena hockey rink, where children's races will also take place.
Children will traditionally compete in the arena in eight age categories. After the race, an attractive raffle awaits them.
A raffle also awaits the adult participants. The main prize will be a Merida mountain bike. Competitions will also include a voucher for the Savannah Hotel or a family voucher for the Čestlice Aquapark.
Come and race on the 20, 45, and 75 km routes and enjoy one of the most beautiful "urban" bike marathons! Experience a great atmosphere and witness unforgettable sports moments. The Karlovy Vary terrain is characterized by a variety of surfaces, significant elevation changes, challenging dynamism, and romantic breathtaking panoramas.
