Documentary films that introduce spa treatments in the second half of the last century in the West Bohemian spa triangle will be preserved and digitized. The Karlovy Vary Museum, a contributory organization of the Karlovy Vary region, in whose archive in Teplička they were stored until now, wants to present them to the general public and incorporate them into its exhibition. The plan was approved by the Karlovy Vary Regional Council.
“The museum's archive contains a total of 150 films in Czech, English, German, as well as in Arabic, French, and Russian language versions. However, only 25 films in the Czech version were selected for digitization. All of them concern the spa triangle of Mariánské Lázně, Karlovy Vary, and Františkovy Lázně, and describe the spa treatments of that time in detail. Not only that but also the properties themselves and the details of the buildings and their purposes,” said Oľga Haláková, the regional councilor for culture and monument care.
The film material, dealing with spa treatments from 1966 to 1983, is captured on classic film reels. The films are in 16 mm and 35 mm formats. The costs for cleaning and digitization exceed 406,000 CZK. The project will be carried out by the Film Laboratory in Zlín, which specializes in processing archival film material.
