From August 28 to September 1, 2024, Karlovy Vary will once again become the center of international folklore, thanks to the 29th edition of the Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival. This traditional festival, held under the auspices of the Statutory City of Karlovy Vary and the Karlovy Vary Region, will welcome ensembles from both the Czech Republic and abroad.
This year's festival will feature performances by ten Czech ensembles and six international groups, showcasing the traditional culture of Algeria, Colombia, Mexico, Greece, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The festival will offer a rich program at various locations in Karlovy Vary, including the traditional opening ceremony, which will take place on August 28 at 7:00 PM in the Multifunctional Hall of the Imperial Spa.
One of the festival's highlights will be the Gala Program, which will be held on Saturday, August 31, in the Grand Hall of the Thermal Hotel. Visitors can look forward to performances by all participating ensembles, promising a unique experience filled with music, dance, and cultural traditions.
The festival program will also include performances on the festival stage in front of the Thermal Hotel, a presentation of folk crafts at the Folk Crafts Fair on T.G. Masaryk Street and in Smetana Park, and a concert at the opening of the exhibition "Jewelry and Ornaments in Folk Culture" at the Karlovy Vary Museum.
The festival will conclude with the international program "Festival Farewell," which will take place on September 1 at 2:30 PM in the open-air amphitheater in Loket. This final program promises an emotional farewell to the rich folklore heritage and its bearers.
