Karlovy VARY°will be in motion in the year 2017. That you do not believe it? We have a few cultural and sporting events for you which will be held in the town in 2017 and which you might not want to miss.
Opening of the Spa Season
The annual Opening of the Spa Season (OSS) is an important event. 660 – this is the number of the season which will be opened in Karlovy Vary at the first weekend in May, i.e. from the 5th till the 7th May 2017. You can look forward to an extensive cultural and social programme. Charles IV, the founder of the town himself, is coming with his suite in “Charles IV procession“, which is a traditional part of the Opening of the Spa Season in Karlovy Vary. Like in previous years, mineral springs will be consecrated so that they can keep restoring the visitors to Karlovy Vary to health.
Parts of the OSS are also the traditional handicraft market, the Porcelain Festival and the Foodfestival.
Mattoni ½ Marathon Karlovy Vary 2017
Do you like running? Or do you like watching other people running? You can try to run a 1/2 Marathon from the CzechRun family in Karlovy Vary too. To run through the beautiful spa zone with a fantastic spectator background and support. You can experience it only with the ½ Marathon Karlovy Vary. We are starting on the 20th May 2017.
European Championship in Sport Aerobics, Fitness and Hip Hop
We will welcome competitors from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic in the centre of magical Karlovy Vary. They will compete in sport aerobics and fitness from Tuesday up to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday sport competitors will change into dance competitors taking part in the European Championship. They will compete in Hip Hop categories (Small Crews, Big Crews, Battles and a new Duo category) From the 23rd to the 27th May 2017.
Qualification for the World Championship in Volleyball
The qualification for the World Championship in volleyball will welcome top sportsmen from the whole world. Come and support your favourite team! From the 23th to the 28th May 2017.
Karlovy Vary Carnival
The 10th Mattoni Karlovy Vary carnival will be held on the 2nd and the 3rd May 2017. Do you have a mask? Or an interesting costume? Then you have to prepare yourself and set off in a procession in the rhythm of dance music. If you prefer being a spectator, it is not a problem. There will be a lot of things to watch.
The International Film Festival Karlovy Vary
The International Film Festival Karlovy Vary is the most important event in the town. In 2017, more precisely from the 30th June until the 8th July, the film festival will return for its 52nd year.
If you want to see the biggest and most famous spa in the Czech Republic in a totally different light than in the rest of the year, you should choose just the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary. You can look forward to an extensive supporting programme, concerts, parties and lots of performances.
Carlsbad Classic
The unique atmosphere of Karlovy Vary and the spa triangle is perfectly complemented with the elegance and majesty of classical cars. Carlsbad Classic is part of the CLASSIC RALLYE TROPHY championship in the season 2017. It will take place on the 14th and 15th July 2017.
Open-Air Concerts
Concerts traditionally liven up hot August days in the summer. The concerts of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra in the colonnades are aimed at all those present. Admission is free. Each concert in the colonnade evokes a pleasant spa atmosphere.
The Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra has already been active for 182 seasons. It is the oldest orchestra on the territory of Bohemia and one of the oldest in the world.
City Triathlon 2017
Swimming + Bike + Running = Triathlon
It all started exactly twenty-three years ago in 1994 when Karlovy Vary played host to the first race of the Czech Cup. The prestige of the event has grown year after year. You can go and support the sportsmen on Rolava sports grounds or in the town centre from the 1st tiill the 3rd September 2017. These are places where competitions will be held. And this time with world stars – the City Triathlon Karlovy Vary is part of the Triathlon World Cup this year.
You can go for a run through Karlovy Vary at night on the eve of the main competition. The City Night Run Karlovy Vary held on the 1st September is an open competition for the broad public and families with children, a night run through the historical part of the town.
VARY°Shining 2017
Last year´s Festival of Light met with an excellent response and so its second year is coming. The programme of the first weekend in September (the 1st and the 2nd September)
The audiovisual show on the theme Karlovy Vary in Motion will mesmerize you with the unique night atmosphere of the spa centre.
Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival
The aim of the Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival is to protect and revive old customs, dances and folk music from the Karlovy Vary region and to reinforce the relationship between the inhabitants and the territory on which they live and which underwent complicated historical development. Regularly in September, since as early as 1996. The festival is supposed to be held from the 5th till the10th September 2017.
KV DOWNTOWN 2017
The final contest of the Czech Downtown Tour 2017 will be held in Karlovy Vary again. You can look forward to the best Czech downhill riders, the most extreme track in the Czech Republic, freestyle exhibitions, contests for children and the public and, first of all, the most challenging race on the spa territory – S. & W. Automobiles Mercedes Benz KV DOWNTOWN 2017. The organizers have promised a lot of attractive changes this year.

Dvořák Autumn
Antonín Dvořák, probably the most famous Czech composer. One of the oldest music festivals in Europe which is held in the beautiful Karlovy Vary autumn. From the 15th till the 28th September 2017.
International Jazz Festival XXXIV
The festival, which has been held without any interruption since 1984, will take place in Karlovy Vary in the course of October. This year is the seventeenth when the Jazzfest will be organized by the association Jazz Circle headed by the director and at the same time an active participant in the festival, the saxophonist Milan Krajíc.
The International Film Festival of Films about Tourism TOURFILM 2017
The oldest film festival of films about tourism in the world. Three October days in Karlovy Vary which are full of films about travelling. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary in the year 2017 (on the 6th and 7th October).
The aim of the festival is to present and appreciate the films and multimedia whose contents and artistic standard contribute to the development of tourism both in our country and abroad and which help to push these films through internationally.
Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition
A competition, which was originally aimed at students of music school, has become a renowned international event in the course of years. The number of singers taking part in it ranges from 80 to 110. They come from the whole world and compete in categories OPERA, JUNIOR and SONG.
Like the famous film festival, this competition will also celebrate its 52nd anniversary in 2017. It will be held from the 3rd till 10th November.
