History of the structure
The decision to construct a new stately building in the vicinity of the cast-iron Hot Spring colonnade was made by the Board of Directors of the Municipal Savings Bank in the early 20th century. The design of the Art Nouveau corner building was created by young local architect Otto Stainl. The construction itself took place between 1904 and 1906 under the supervision of builder Josef Waldert from Karlovy Vary. The grand opening of the new Art Nouveau building of the Municipal Savings Bank was held on 26 April 1906.
When the neighbouring Franconia House had been pulled down in 1924, the Municipal Savings Bank was extended to its present form by adding a side wing. After a new modern building of Česká spořitelna (Czech Savings Bank) had been built in Třída T. G. Masaryka (T. G. Masaryk Avenue) in 1993, the old building was sold into private hands.
