Lehár's Merry Widow aroused enormous enthusiasm when it was first performed in 1905, quickly spread from Vienna to the whole world and became the composer's best-known and most successful work. Literally everyone knows at least two hits from this operetta - the song "I know U Maxima" and the famous "Song of Vilje". Franz Lehár, especially in connection with his last works, is famous for bringing sadness and tears into the operetta, but his fifth operetta still offers a classic happy ending.
