Karlovy Vary will enter a new spa season on the first weekend of May. From 3rd to 5th May the whole town will be alive with one of the most important cultural and social events. A rich cultural programme is prepared for the residents and visitors, which will not be missed by many distinguished guests from all over the world.

The Saturday part of the programme will be devoted to the traditional rituals of the start of the season in Karlovy Vary, such as the blessing of the springs by the papal nuncio, the solemn mass and the procession of the retinue of Charles IV through the town

An Open Space in front of the Architectural Bureau of the City of Karlovy Vary, Dr. M. Horákové Square
Streets, open spaces, houses, but also pipelines – we know which way what leads, where what stands. We analyse the current and plant the future appearance of Karlovy Vary. We communicate with residents. Urban planning and architecture are the main focus of our work. The work that we have been doing hard since 2018 as a contributory organisation of the City of Karlovy Vary. The outdoor exhibition “Six Years of KAM” presents selected projects of the organisation. You can visit it free of charge and anytime during the day.

Karlovy Vary Museum

9 a.m. - 5 p.m. | “Kemet” exhibition
The exhibition will introduce Hesham Malik, an Egyptian-born artist, with his fascinating insight into Egyptian culture. You will experience the myths and realities of Ancient Egypt, the land of pharaohs and slaves. Through this exhibition, the author wants to show that the legacy of artistic creativity can survive for millennia and appeal even to today’s people. (admission fee CZK 70, reduced admission CZK 50)

9 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Permanent museum exhibition
The permanent exhibition offers an overview of the history and nature of the Karlovy Vary area focusing on the specifics of the spa town. It presents living and unanimated nature with emphasis on ecology, archaeological findings, the development of the settlement of the region, and the development of crafts. (admission fee CZK 110, reduced admission CZK 70)

Becher’s Villa Interactive Gallery

10 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Exhibition “Jan Tichý – Construct of Visions”
The exhibition introduces three parts of Jan Tichý’s creative work (1962) - painting, drawing, and porcelain. The common feature of these three techniques is a distinctive signature style, a search for an adequate shape, a sense of harmony, monumentality, as well as delicately elaborate details. (admission fee CZK 80, reduced admission CZK 40)

Karlovy Vary Gallery of Arts

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. | Exhibition “Vladimír Novák“
The exhibition will present the current work of Vladimír Novák (1947), painter, graphic artist, illustrator, and founding member of the “Volné seskupení 12/15: pozdě, ale přece” free group of artists. It presents distinctively urgent artistic language based primarily on colour, relaxed gestural brushwork, which expressively processes the doubts and longing expectations of a man afflicted by existential turmoil. (admission fee CZK 80, reduced admission CZK 40)

The new permanent exhibition prepared within the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Karlovy Vary Gallery of Arts showcases a rich collection of Czech art of the 20th century and presents the works of Czech modern art classics and contemporary artists, e.g. A. Slavíček, J. Preisler, J. Trampota, J. Zrzavý, J. Čapek, E. Filla, J. Šíma, M. Medek, V. Boštík, K. Nepraš, M. Rittstein, Z. Sýkora, K. Malich, F. Skála, J. A new exhibition will be festively opened during the celebrations of the Spa Season Opening in the building of the Imperial Spa. The modern exposition will acquaint the visitors with the history of the spa industry, as well as with significant spa visitors, and curative and mineral elements that have been used in the local spas for centuries. The performance is another school-wide project attempting to connect all four fields of art – music, dance, fine art, and drama. This model of joint work on a single theme has proven successful in previous projects, on which it builds once again. This year’s performance of Saltatio saltationum (Dance of Dances) will take you on a journey to another world full of imagination, ideas, pictures, and colours.
