Ekotopfilm is the world’s oldest festival of documentary films about the environment and sutainability in the world. It runs all year long throughout the whole Czech Republic.

Its first year in the Czech Republic kicked off in 2016 but the festival history dates back to 1974 when it took place for the first time  in former Czechoslovakia. From then on it has been running in Slovakia where it celebrated in 2016 its 43rd year.

Festival brings the best world’s documentary films. The first Czech year presented 81 films from 23 countries and 6 continents. Apart from films, debates with experts and filmmakers are part of the festival program. In 2016 Ekotopfilm welcomed for example a German activist Raphael Fellmer who had lived for 5 years completely without money, and a range of filmmakers from all around the world.

The aim of the festival is to raise awareness of the public about environmental issues and sustainable ways of life, make them think, and inspire to make a change in everyday lives. That is why after the competition part in Prague there is a festival tour over 50 cities throughout the Czech Republic to reach the whole population. Indispensable part of the festival is also a Junior festival targetted exclusively at young visitors to entertain and educate young generation.
